Belt Size Guide: How to Measure Your Belt Size

Method 1: measure a belt you already own (most accurate)

  1. Lay the belt flat.
  2. Measure from where the leather or strap meets the buckle (not the buckle tip) to the hole you use most.
  3. That measurement is your belt size.

Method 2: use your trouser waist size

A common rule of thumb is to choose a belt about 2 inches (around 5 cm) longer than your trouser waist size. For example, 34" trousers usually suit a 36" belt. Sizing varies between brands, so Method 1 is more reliable.

Method 3: measure where you wear the belt

Measure around your waist (or hips, for hip-worn styles) over your clothes, where the belt will actually sit, and add a little extra for the overlap.

Women's waist, corset and chain belts

  • Elasticated belts stretch, so check the stated relaxed and stretched lengths on the product page.
  • Waist or corset belts sit at the natural waist (the narrowest part), which is usually smaller than your trouser waist.
  • Chain belts often have an adjustable clasp. Check the maximum length listed.
