UK Bed Sizes Explained: Mattress, Duvet & Sheet Sizes

Choosing bedding starts with knowing your bed size. UK bed sizes are different from European and US sizes, so a "double" bought abroad may not fit a UK double mattress.

Typical UK mattress sizes

UK bed size Typical mattress size (W x L) In feet/inches
Small single 75 x 190 cm 2'6" x 6'3"
Single 90 x 190 cm 3' x 6'3"
Small double 120 x 190 cm 4' x 6'3"
Double 135 x 190 cm 4'6" x 6'3"
King 150 x 200 cm 5' x 6'6"
Super king 180 x 200 cm 6' x 6'6"

Typical UK duvet sizes

Bed Typical duvet size
Single 135 x 200 cm
Double 200 x 200 cm
King 225 x 220 cm
Super king 260 x 220 cm

Many people pick a duvet one size up (for example a king duvet on a double bed) for extra overhang, especially when two people share.

Fitted sheets: check the depth

A fitted sheet must match your mattress width and length and its depth. Measure your mattress depth (including any topper) and compare it with the "fits mattress depth up to" figure on the product page.

Pillowcases

The standard UK pillowcase is about 50 x 75 cm. Oxford pillowcases have an extra flat border.

Quick tips

  • Measure the mattress, not the bed frame.
  • Check product dimensions on each listing, as sizes can vary slightly by manufacturer.
